Andy Burnham is on stage after he was announced as the new leader of the Labour Party on July 17, at the Trades Union Congress in London. Burnham, a member of Parliament for Makerfield, England, ran unopposed to succeed Keir Starmer, who announced his resignation in June, setting Burnham on course to become the United Kingdom

On Monday, former Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham succeeds Keir Starmer as the United Kingdom's prime minister. Burnham's politics have been shaped by England's north-south class divide.
