Series of recent DOJ cases show foreign operatives plotting assassinations in U.S.

Flowers adorn the memorial plaque at the site where Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffitt where killed in Washington, D.C. They were killed in a car bomb on Sept. 21, 1976, by agents of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet as they drove to work at the Institute for Policy Studies.

State-sponsored assassination plots on U.S. soil may sound like the stuff of movies, but the Department of Justice says it has foiled four such cases since 2022.
